What is the best time to visit for an African wildlife safari?
East Africa’s unique seasons control migration and rainfall, yet wildlife watching here is fantastic all year. The migration is constant; it takes place in the Serengeti for ten months of the year and for six weeks between the Maasai Mara and the Seregenti. Millions of animals on the vast plains of the Serengeti provide 360-degree views of nature from December to March, and in the beginning of February there are babies abound. Often regarded as a peak, June to October sees the herds travel between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara driven by dry conditions and shorter forage. One also runs the possibility of seeing Mara River crossings.
One should keep in mind that the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti, where many of our safari days take place, have a distinct rain pattern than the rest of East Africa and so influence the migration. East Africa often is somewhat temperate even though it sits on the equator. From March through May and from November through December are the primary rainy seasons. Many well-known safari sites lie between 5,000 and 6,500 feet, which maintains pleasant temperatures. Although coastal regions are hotter, most of the year the ocean breeze helps to keep rather pleasant temperatures.
Though we travel during the busiest months of June through October, the rhinoceros is the highlight of our Kenya Rhino Conservation Safari unlike other East Africa itinerues that center on the migration.
Where is the Maasai Mara & Serengeti?
Covering 580 square miles of southwest Kenya, the Maasai Mara National Reserve is a protected region. Situated close to and the northern extension of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania, covering an amazing 11,583 square kilometers, it is
What is the weather like on an African safari?
The Maasai Mara and Serengeti ranges have daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-to high-70s throughout year, which makes them a really nice safari location. Evenings can be in the 50s, hence a fleece or sweatshirt is advised. For those who extend their safaris on the shore, it usually is a little warmer there and a bit cooler on the high plateaus. Rainstorms arrive East Africa at different times year outside the main rainy seasons, however they usually last only a few yet really amazing afternoon thunderstorms.
What type of wildlife will we see on an African Safari
Along with zebras, gazelles, and wildebeest participating in the yearly Great Migration, the Serengeti and Maasai Mara feature an extraordinarily high predator count including lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Along with hundreds of unusual bird species, Buffalo and elephant can be seen in great numbers here, so providing a unique and varied wildlife viewing experience.
The centerpiece of our Kenya Rhino Conservation Safari is the rhinoceros, unlike on other East African plans.
What time of the day is wildlife in Africa most active?
East African wildlife typically generally most active in the morning and at night. Travelers notably benefit from this since the mornings and evenings are the coolest times of the day and so the greatest times to be out in the wilderness. The optimum lighting for catching the ideal pictures of any animal you might come across on your game drives or bush walks comes from the morning and evening as well.
What are Africa's Big Five?
The renowned Big Five of Africa are the lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopard.
What is the Great Migration?
The biggest group movement of terrestrial mammals on Earth is known as The Great Migration. About 1.5 million wildebeest, gazelle, and zebra travel the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara during this occasion with armies of ravenous predators in following. Moving in quest of greener territory to the northern Serengeti, the grasslands dry out. The sheer enormity of this event and the fierce interactions between predator and prey present an unmatched and unforgettable nature show.
What is the best time to see the great migration?
The movement is constant; it takes place in Tanzania for ten months of the year and for six weeks between Kenya and Tanzania. Every season provides different opportunities. Millions of animals on the vast plains of the Serengeti provide 360-degree views of nature from December to March, and around the beginning of February infants abound. Often regarded as a peak, June to October sees the herds travel between the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara driven by dry conditions and shorter forage. One also runs the possibility of seeing Mara River crossings. Although herds of wildebeest and zebra counting hundreds of thousands are visible at this time, local events such rainfall and wildfires influence wildlife travel patterns and cause mini-migrants over the Maasai Mara and northern Serengeti. Consequently, sightings of the famous lines of animals cannot be exactly forecast; nonetheless, our safaris place you in places most likely to see this display. Unlike other East African plans that center migration, rhinos are the main attraction of our Kenya Rhino Conservation Safari.
Will we have a chance to meet any local Masai Tribespeople?
The Maasai people, a classic pastoralist tribe, live in East Africa. Originally ferociously warlike and migratory, the Maasai have coexisted with animals for millennia and saw themselves as environment protectors. Depending on the location of the small safari camps and lodges selected for your itinerary, it may be possible to include an authentic and culturally sensitive visit to a local village, market or school and also spend time on a Maasai naturalist-guided bush walk seeing nature through their eyes and learning some of the skills the warriors use when traveling through the wilderness.
How will we travel around Africa on our safari?
We fly small planes; our game drives and road transfers take place in either open or closed 4×4 safari land cruisers (see each particular itinerary for specifics). Our safari vehicles feature comfortable passenger seats, and we hardly fill them to capacity so that every guest has a window seat and lots of room for belongings.
What clothing should i pack for the weather in Africa?
Although the temperature rises in the afternoon and the day gets warmer, mornings and nights can be somewhat chilly, thus visitors should pack many garments. Bring lightweight long- and short-sleeved shirts, pants (zip-off pants are a fantastic option), a warm fleece or jacket, a hat and appropriate walking shoes for bush walks. On an Africa safari, a broad-brimmed hat is usually useful! See Nat Hab’s online Gear Store for some of the main goods advised for your trip and review this useful packing list for more specifics about what to pack.
